Duminică noapte, pe 25 aprilie, a avut loc Gala Premiilor Oscar 2021. La cea de-a 93-a ediție, Nomadland a câștigat Oscarul pentru Best Picture, iar Chloé Zhao, de origine chineză, a scris istorie devenind prima femeie de culoare și origine asiatică-americana care câștigă Oscarul pentru Cel mai bun Regizor cu Nomadland. A fost o seară importantă și pentru România, care a fost pentru prima dată prezentă la Premiile Oscar, după dubla nominalizare istorică a documentarului Colectiv la documentar și film străin, dar nu a câștigat la niciuna dintre cele două categorii. Frances McDormand a câștigat al treilea Oscar din carieră pentru cea mai bună actriță în Nomadland, iar Anthony Hopkins Oscarul pentru cel mai bun actor în The Father.
